Evelozcity is looking for a Power Electronics Packaging Engineer that will be responsible for the design, analyze and testing packaging aspect of power electronics systems, i.e., power modules, inductors, & capacitors for the battery electric vehicle applications. Tasks include but not limit to: designing power electronics packaging and developing new concept for prototype and production electric vehicles; building and testing prototypes to verify & quantify packaging concept for cost, thermal, mechanical, electrical, reliability and manufacturability benefit; performing materials characterization and failure mode analysis for power electronics; designing & carrying out reliability testing, e.g., thermal cycle, power cycle, vibration & mechanical fatigue of above components; design and mitigate electrical stray parameters; establish and validate cost models for the new concepts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D, or MSc. with two years working experience, in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Material Engineering, with power electronics packaging background.
  • 4+ years’ working or advanced research experience in various packaging techniques, tools and procedures for designing, manufacturing, developing and testing power electronics in thermal, mechanical, and electrical aspects.
  • Understanding of power device / module fabrication methods, material sets and advanced packaging technologies.
  • Design knowledge of cooling methods for components and sub-assemblies, including thermal interface materials, and ability to perform thermal, stress and fatigue analyses.
  • Expertise in reliability testing, e.g., thermal cycle, power cycle, vibration and mechanical fatigue and performing failure analysis of packaging reliability issues.
  • FEA and/or CFD experience for at least three years.
  • Mechanical component and material selection for enclosures and electronics packaging.
  • Experience in manufacturing process of transfer molding, soldering, wire bonding & sintering, 3-D printing knowledge & experience.
  • Understanding of traditional machine shop fabrication and exposure to novel manufacturing techniques (e.g., additive).
  • Understanding of materials used for wide temperature packaging (-55C to 200C+) in the areas of low voltage analog and digital circuits, power components and passives.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of power electronics systems
  • Understanding of power semiconductor devices, including silicon and wide-band-gap ones, e.g., IGBTs, MOSFETs, diodes.
  • Hands-on experience on materials characterization techniques, tools and processes, e.g., SEM, TEM XPS, EDS, XRD and Micro/Nano-indentation
