Job Purpose

The person In Charge of Battery System Validation will be responsible for planning, conducting and reviewing analysis and testing activities to ensure the performance, life and safety of large format lithium-ion battery systems.

Responsibilities and Goals

  • Develop battery system DFMEAs and DVP&R based on experience with lithium-ion battery systems, understanding of failure modes and interaction with other team members.
  • Conduct development and validation testing on battery modules, components and systems using a combination of internal and external resources.
  • Specify and plan installation of test equipment and facilities.
  • Perform failure analysis, root cause analysis, DRBTR and other activities based on test results.
  • Plan and co-ordinate CAE activities to support virtual design validation.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelors degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with full life-cycle development of lithium-ion battery systems including launch into volume production.
  • Familiarity with OEM/Tier 1 battery system validation methods, including test protocols, sample sizes, performance/pass/fail criteria.
  • Familiarity with lithium ion battery testing, performance and safety standards such as UN 38.3, SAE J2464/SAE J2929, USABC, FreedomCar, etc.
  • Experience with battery test equipment (i.e. Arbin, Aerovironment, MACCOR, etc.) programming, data collection and data extraction.
